Has a Certified Arborist inspected your trees lately? After a Certified Arborist comes to inspect your trees for signs of decay in trees’ root systems and trunks and inspect crowns of trees for dead branches or other indications of weakness – the arborist may suggest installing a cable or a system of cables. Installing a cable to your trees shouldn’t alarm you. A tree cable can actually be very helpful for the tree in reducing weight from the trees canopy.

We’ll share what tree cabling actually is and why cabling your trees is important for overall tree health.

Tree cabling is the installation of flexible steel into the destabilized tree to reduce stress damage from high winds, heavy foliage, and/or the weight of snow and ice. Think of cabled bridges: the cable is there to hold the bridge up. In very much the same way as a bridge cable, a tree cable helps hold a tree upright. Cabling helps trees better withstand severe weather conditions and improve longevity. Cabling also reinforces weak limbs to become stronger against unpredictable outside forces. If your trees are showing signs of leaning branches or weakened areas of the tree, cabling might be the answer. Your areas Arborist representative will be able to determine if a tree cable is necessary. If so, our crews are skilled at placing and maintaining tree cables over the years. We recommend a cable is examined every year for durability.

If you’ve never considered storm protection for your trees, it may be in your (and your trees) best interest to think again. Storm damaged trees are costly and leave a dangerous aftermath of unpredictable winter storms. Ensure your trees are strong and sturdy before winter storms arrive.
